In 5 days you will take part in various iconic winter activities in Kiruna and Abisko, both located about 200km north of the Arctic Circle. The package includes a stay in the world’s first ICEHOTEL. Be amazed by the beautiful ice sculptures and have an opportunity to sleep a night in the hand craved Art Suites. A thrilling overnight adventure while mushing your own team of huskies throughout the snow-covered winter landscape, will bring you once-in-a-lifetime experience. The breathtaking northern lights phenomenon in the Arctic part of Lapland will make your holiday even more special.

Icehotel

During this holiday, you will stay a night in the world famous ICEHOTEL. Its unique ice-made rooms are hand carved differently every year by various artists from all over the world. While this package includes your stay in the comfort hotel warm rooms, you may choose to stay in one of the extraordinary Art Suites to refine your Arctic Sweden experience.

Overnight Dogsledding

Steer your own sled with enthusiastic Huskies through the glittering frozen winter landscape towards a wilderness cabin, where you will spend the evening. Warm up in the wood-fired sauna before having your dinner served. After breakfast, you help to harness the dogs and drive your own dog sled back to the Husky Homestead again.

Northern Lights

Located up-north above the Arctic Circle, Kiruna and Abisko are both overlapped with the Aurora Oval, which is the huge Northern Light ring coverage above the Earth’s Geomagnetic North Pole. Here you have a high chance to witness this spectacular natural phenomenon. Besides of a night visit to the Aurora Sky Station, one of the top 10 places on earth to spot the northern lights, you will also join a northern light safari by snowmobile.

ITINERARY

Arctic Sweden Winter Holiday | 5 days / 4 nights

Arrival Day

Welcome to Swedish Lapland! On arrival to Kiruna Airport, you land 150km north from the Arctic Circle into the northernmost part of Sweden. A short transfer will bring you to the family owned hotel Camp Ripan, close to the heart of Kiruna city. Here you will stay in a comfortable private timber chalet. The hotel’s rewarded Aurora Spa invites you to wander between heat and cold. Relax indoors and enjoy the winter white landscape through panorama windows, or feel the cool caress of the polar winter across your cheek while enveloped by the comfort of the outdoor warm pool. If you are lucky, the colorful dance of the Northern Lights will entertain you!

 
Day 2 –  A Fun Day in Kiruna

After a good night sleep and enjoying a rich Scandinavian breakfast buffet, a private taxi transfer will take you to world’s first ICEHOTEL. You may visit the ICEHOTEL Art Exhibition where you can see the fantastic sculptures and the ice rooms in peace on your own. A non-alcoholic drink at the ICEBAR is included in your visit. Before heading back to the hotel, you may check the souvenir shop. If you are interested in learning more about the indigenous Sámi culture and their reindeers. We have selected several optional tours where you can choose from.

During the evening you go hunting for the magical Northern Lights by dog sled! By arriving at the Husky Kennel, you can relax and take place on warm reindeer skins on a sled and enjoy the dark polar night! The team of friendly huskies will pull you through the sparkling winter wonderland.  Immerse yourself in the dark wintry nights of Lapland and escape the city lights with the enthusiast huskies. Along the route a stop will be made to enjoy a warm outdoor dinner and a hot drink by the campfire. Meanwhile, the guide will provide you with more information about the Northern Lights. An experience which will give you memories for a lifetime!

 
Day 3 – Abisko and Aurora Sky Station

Today you will continue northward to the small mountain village of Abisko. Situated within a bowl of mountains, Abisko is well known as the “Blue Hole” (a patch of permanently clear sky) because of its little cloudy and snowy weather. In addition to its location on the Auroral Oval, Abisko becomes the best place in Europe for observing the magical natural phenomenon Northern Lights. A transfer will take you to the Kiruna train station, followed by a 1,5-hour scenic train ride towards Abisko. In the evening you will take the chairlift up to the Aurora Sky Station, 900 meters above sea level, which is listed in the Lonely Planet’s top 10 places of the world for Northern Lights viewing. After arriving, you have an opportunity to learn more about the Northern Lights by participating in a guided tour.  The last chairlift ride down leaves at 01:00.

Day 4 – Abisko National Park 

In the morning you may take it easy after having a late night in the Aurora Sky Station. If you plan to wake up early then there are many optional tours to choose from to explore the Abisko National Park in your preferred way. What about taking part in a scenic snowmobile tour driving high up in the mountain areas.  Ice fishing or snowshoe walking into the unspoiled winter wonderland? We can recommend visiting the Naturum visitor center for the Abisko National Park to learn more about the region.

After dinner, you may choose for a relaxed last evening in the hotel, or spend one more evening outdoors chasing the Northern Lights by joining an optional snowmobile Northern Lights safari.

Day 5 – Departure Day

After daily enjoying new experiences it’s time to travel home. Depending on your flight schedule, maybe you have some time left to relax in this Northernmost part of Swedish Lapland. If you have an early flight, then it is time to get ready and check out of your hotel room. A transfer will be arranged for you from Abisko to Kiruna Airport. You can look back on your amazing 5 days visit to Swedish Lapland!

 

Day 4 – A day to explore Abisko National Park

While you are in the northernmost part of Sweden, you have the perfect setting to experience natural contrasts unlike any other. You may customize your memorable holiday with several iconic winter activities – from enjoying the beauty of silence with ice fishing, or exploring the mountainous landscape by cross-country skiing. Warm up in the warm sauna and cool down from jumping into the ice pool to fully experience the Nordic traditions. You can also choose many activities such as ice climbing or snowshoe walking to complete your Arctic winter holiday.

Day 1 – Arrival day

Welcome to Kiruna! When arriving at Kiruna Airport, you have landed above the Arctic Circle of Sweden. A short transfer will bring you to the small village of Jukkasjärvi, where the world’s first ICEHOTEL is located. Here you can see the fantastic ice sculptures and the ice rooms in peace on your own. You may also grab a drink at the ICEBAR to officially kick off your Arctic Sweden Winter Holiday!

In the evening, you will join a thrilling northern light snowmobile safari across the Arctic winter landscape. Picturing a clear sky and darkness in the wild, you have the best ingredients for hunting the northern lights. Along the way you will make a stop by a warm wilderness cabin where a delicious 2-course dinner is served.

Day 2 – Sami culture & overnight Dogsledding tour

The morning you can spend at ease. We recommend to take a leisure walk to the nearby Sámi-open air museum to learn the genuine Sámi culture. Discover Sápmis history and find out how the Sámi once lived according to their 8 seasons and survived a nomadic life in the Arctic. On top of this, you can see some reindeer that graze daily at the museum grounds.

In the afternoon you will experience a top-of-the-range overnight excursion. You will drive your own team of enthusiastic huskies. The tour starts near the ICEHOTEL and goes along the tracks in snow-covered winter landscape. Enjoy the tranquillity and the sound of the dog’s paws against the snow while you are driving deeper into the woods. Eventually, you reach your accommodation for the night in a cozy wilderness lodge, secluded in the forest.  While your guide is preparing a warm dinner for you, you may warm up in the wood-heated sauna and roll yourself into the snow, make a “snow-angel” like the local does. If the sky is clear, hopefully you will see the magical northern lights in the evening.

Day 3 – Abisko and Aurora Sky Station

After breakfast, you help to harness the dogs and drive your own dog sled back to the Husky Homestead again. Say farewell to the friendly huskies and return to the ICEHOTEL. Lunch, maybe have a last look in the souvenir shop from the ICEHOTEL, before heading to your next destination Abisko by train. Abisko is a small mountain village with it’s own train station, after arrival it’s a short walk to the STF Abisko Tourist Station, where you will spend the next 2 nights.

Check in, refresh and enjoy a dinner in the restaurant before taking the chairlift up to the Aurora Sky station, 900 meter above sea level. A 2km long chairlift will bring you to one of the best places on earth to watch the northern lights.

Day 5 – Departure Day

During your holiday you have been daily waking up with new experiences, but today it’s time to travel homeward. Depending on your flight schedule a 1,5-hour transfer will take you to Kiruna airport.
